for : 전치사
(1) 기본 : for + 숫자
We have been working together for 3 years. 우리는 3년간 같이 일해왔다.
I have been saving up for 3 months to get a new computer. 새 컴퓨터 사려고 3개월 저축했어.
두 시간 동안 -> for 2 hours , 6개월 동안 -> for 6 months , 9년 동안 -> for 9 years

(2)예외(for 다음에 숫자가 안쓰일때)
나는 몇 년간 영어 공부를 해왔어 -> I have been studying English for years  (몇 시간 동안 -> for hours , 몇 일 동안 -> for days)
나는 한동안 여기 안왔어 -> I haven't been here for a while (여기에서 while은 명사)  ※ 한동안 -> for a while , 오랫동안 -> for ages , for a long time

during : 전치사
(1) 기본 : during + 사건 
He was away during the meeting. 그는 회의하는 동안 자리를 비웠다.
I'm usually hardworking, but I'm lazy during the weekends. 난 평소엔 부지런한데, 주말엔 게을러.
※ 회의하는 동안에 -> during the meeting , 수업 시간 동안에 -> during the class , 점심 시간 동안에 -> during lunch
숫자는 아니지만 시간을 나타내는 단어가 자주 나온다. (낮 동안 -> during the day , 밤 동안 -> during the night)

(2) 예외(during 다음에 숫자가 쓰일때)
바로 전 2시간 동안 영화를 봤어. I was watching a movie during the last 2 hours. (그냥 걸린 시간을 말하는게 아니라 특정한 2시간을 말한다.)
※ for : How log~?(얼마나 걸렸냐?)에 대한 답 , during : When~?(언제냐?)에 대한 답
The surgeon was very stressed during the 3 hours of surgery.
그 외과 의사는 수술을 하는 3시간 동안 많은 압박을 받았다.
지난 2년 동안 -> during the last 2 years (특정 기간에 집중) , 지난 2년 동안-> for the last 2 years (걸린 시간에 집중) 

while : 접속사
(1) 기본 : while + 문장(주어+동사)
아침 먹는 동안 ->  while I was having breakfast , 설거지 하는 동안 -> while I was doing the dishes
I took the call while I was having breakfast. 아침 먹는 동안 그 전화를 받았어.
While the power was out, I couldn't use the internet. 전기가 나간 동안, 인터넷을 쓸 수 없었어.

(2) 예외 (while 다음에 문장이 안나올때)
I took the call while having breakfast.
아침 먹는 동안 그 전화를 받았어. (while 다음에 I was 가 생략)
I listended to music while doing the dishes. 
설거지 하는 동안 음악 들었어. (while 다음에 I was 가 생략)
